West St. Paul residents are invited to weigh in on plans to build a new Costco store in the bedroom community. A public hearing is scheduled for 6 p.m. June 12 in the RM of West St. Paul’s council chambers on Main Street. Folks are invited to share feedback and ask questions about an application to build an auto station and seasonal garden centre as part of the proposed 161,992-square-foot Costco retail store on Meadowland Drive. Council is considering the conditional use application, as well as a separate variance application to reduce loading space. The service station is proposed to have 16 vehicle stalls in eight lanes and a building with numerous bays for tire and other auto services, plus a tire inflation centre. The outdoor garden centre would be seasonal, the application notes, and would take over a portion of the parking lot. After the public hearing, council will vote on the application. CTV News Winnipeg reached out to the wholesaler for comment and is awaiting a response. However, its website notes the corporation does not comment on locations opening more than three months from now. Meanwhile, another Manitoba Costco location is already in the works. According to real estate firm Shindico, a166,986-square-foot store is expected to open in late 2025 near the Red River Ex grounds in west Winnipeg. It’s part of the 70-acre Westport Festival – a planned development with retail, hotels, restaurants, offices and warehouse space. Construction started on that store in September 2024. It will be Winnipeg’s fourth Costco location.
