The province is in the early stages of twinning a stretch of highway north of Winnipeg. A spokesperson for Manitoba Transportation and Infrastructure tells CTV News the department is in the design phase for a project to twin 14 kilometers of Highway 59, which runs from Highway 12 to a few kilometres south of South Beach Casino. The route is a busy artery in the summer months, connecting Winnipeggers to a number of Lake Winnipeg cottage communities like Grand Marais, Victoria Beach, and Belair. The design phase is expected to take somewhere between one to two years with construction to follow. The spokesperson said it’s too early to say when it might be completed. - With files from CTV’s Will Reimer
