New data shows Manitobans don’t have faith in health-care system if they suffered an emergency

New data from an Angus Reid Institute study shows the majority of Manitobans do not feel they would receive timely care if a health emergency happened to them or their loved ones.

Over 4,000 Canadians were asked a variety of questions regarding the current health-care system between Nov. 26 and Dec. 1, 2025.

The majority of people asked in each province said they would not feel confident in their health-care system to handle an emergency in a timely manner. Manitoba led the way with 73 per cent.

Across the country, the study found men were more confident in the health-care system compared to women. Quebec respondents felt the most confident out of any province at 43 per cent.

Manitoba was also near the top of the list when asked if the overall quality of care is worse or not compared to the last 10 to 15 years.

Seventy-four per cent of Manitobans feel the health-care system has deteriorated compared to past years. The only province with a higher overall concern is New Brunswick at 76 per cent.

The study also asked if people were satisfied with how the provincial government is handling health care. Again, a majority of Manitobans were very or moderately dissatisfied with the government at 69 per cent.

Despite concerns with the health-care system, a majority of Manitobans still feel it is easy or very easy to access a diagnostic test. Among those asked who required some sort of test in the past six months, 55 per cent said it wasn’t difficult to access.

It was viewed as a little more difficult, however, to get an appointment with a specialist. Forty-five per cent thought it was easy or very easy, while 55 per cent said it was anywhere from difficult to impossible.

The health-care system has been in the forefront lately in Manitoba, as two people have died after going to the St. Boniface Hospital emergency room to receive care in the past month.

PC leader Obby Khan called on Premier Wab Kinew to join forces and find a way to fix health care in the province to ensure this doesn’t happen to other families in the future.

Angus Reid performed an online survey with 4,025 Canadians. A probability sample of this size would have a margin of error plus or minus 1.5 percentage points 19 times out of 20.
