New Costco to open Thursday following closure of St. James location

Winnipeg’s newest Costco will officially open its doors on Thursday.

The new Costco is set to open Thursday morning just outside the west perimeter.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony is set to be held Thursday morning to mark the opening of the new location at 4077 Portage Avenue West. It will be open to the public at 7 a.m.

“Featuring Costco’s latest product and service offerings and newest amenities—including a hearing aid department, a gas station with 24 gas pumps, more than 1,000 parking spots, and a fresh sushi bar—the new and improved Winnipeg warehouse has created approximately 125 new jobs,” a release from the company said.

It noted the new warehouse is a relocation of the St. James Street warehouse, which is set to close at 6 p.m. Wednesday after nearly 35 years. The site will be converted into a Costco Business Centre, which will open in 2026.

According to the Costco website, the business centre will be open to all members and will feature business products not available at traditional warehouses.

Premier Wab Kinew and Winnipeg Mayor Scott Gillingham are both expected to attend the ribbon-cutting ceremony at the new location Thursday morning.
