Winnipeg is set to become a treasure trove for collectors of vinyl, cassettes and posters. Canada’s second largest record sale is coming to the Caboto Centre on Oct. 18. The Manitoba Music and Record Sale is set to include over 90 tables full of records, CDs and memorabilia. “It’s like a community. We get hundreds of people coming down,” said sale organizer Mike Huen in an interview with Your Morning Winnipeg on Wednesday. “The young people over the last 10 years have embraced physical media and it really started with all the vinyl records.” Huen added that vinyl records have seen a major growth in popularity over the last few years, noting that buying a brand new record can cost between $30 to $50. He said the weekend event will feature vinyl and cassettes from all sorts of artists including the Spice Girls, Bruce Springsteen and New Kids on the Block. “The lovely thing is the generation of people who are propping up the market right now – you walk into the show, half the people are under the age of 40,” Huen said. “The other half are old farts like me, but you know it’s a love of music.” The Manitoba Music and Record Sale will run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday. Admission is $6. With files from CTV’s Rachel Lagacé
