Manitoba schools and highways closed due to winter weather

Poor driving conditions have prompted some Manitoba school divisions to cancel classes and buses Wednesday morning.

The following schools are closed and buses are cancelled for April 8, 2026:

• Evergreen School Division – All schools are closed, and buses are cancelled.
• Lord Selkirk School Division – All schools are closed and buses are cancelled.
• Interlake School Division – All schools are closed.
• Red River Valley School Division – All schools are closed.
• Prairie Rose School Division – All schools are closed and buses are cancelled.
• Seine River School Division - All schools are closed and buses are cancelled.
• Lakeshore School Division - All schools are closed.
• Division scolaire franco-manitobaine – Schools are closed for École Aurèle Lemoine, École Jours de Plaine, École Saint-Georges, École Lagimodière (Lorette), École Pointe des Chênes (Sainte-Anne), École Saint-Jean-Baptiste, École Sainte-Agathe, École Saint-Joachim (La Broquerie), École Réal-Bérard (Saint-Pierre Joly), and École Gabrielle-Roy.  

Meanwhile, Manitoba 511 reports several highway closures as of early Wednesday:

• Highway 5 – Closed from Ochre River to Grandview.
• Highway 10 – Closed from the north entrance of Riding Mountain National Park to Pine River.
• Highway 20 – Closed from Ochre River to Fork River.

The province notes closure gates or warning signs may not be present at all locations.

Environment and Climate Change Canada has issued a snowfall warning for parts of southern Manitoba, with an additional five to 15 cm expected.

The snow is forecast to taper off Wednesday afternoon in western Manitoba and by the evening in eastern regions.

Travel conditions are expected to remain challenging, with the potential for further road closures and localized power outages.
