She has represented the riding since 2019. History Winnipeg Centre was originally contested from 1914 to 1924, but was then abolished and absorbed into Winnipeg North Centre and Winnipeg South Centre ridings. Winnipeg Centre was brought back in 1996 as its own riding. It has been an NDP stronghold since its creation, except for 2015, when Robert-Falcon Ouellette was elected under the Liberal banner Boundaries The riding sits between the Assiniboine River and the Canadian Pacific Railway, and includes Downtown Winnipeg, The Exchange District, and the Manitoba Legislative Building. Demographics According to the 2021 Census, the riding had 87,499 people living in it, a slight 1.8 per cent increase from 2016. According to the census, 43.8 per cent of the residents in the riding identify as a visible minority and 19.1 per cent have Indigenous identity.
