The Winnipeg Police Service arrested a 29-year-old man in connection to three robberies within the span of an hour on Friday. Police allege the incidents began at 6 p.m. when the suspect, who was armed with a gun, went to a hotel lounge in the 1400 block of Notre Dame Avenue and stole a bottle of vodka from the bar. He left the scene before police arrived. Nearly an hour later at 6:55 p.m., police said the suspect went to a fast-food restaurant in the 1100 block of Notre Dame where he demanded money from a worker while brandishing his gun. Officers note the suspect ran away empty-handed before they arrived. The final robbery took place around 7 p.m., when the suspect got into a taxi parked in a lot in the sub-100 block of McPhillips Street while brandishing his gun. According to police, the 29-year-old then got into the driver’s seat of the taxi and stole a hand-held debit machine. The suspect ran from the scene after unsuccessfully trying to steal the taxi. Police learned of the robberies at 7:20 p.m. and found the suspect hiding in a lot in the sub-100 block of Myrtle Street. He was arrested without incident. Police note a search of the suspect’s property resulted in the seizure of an imitation Micro Uzi airsoft pistol and a machete. No one was injured in any of the incidents. A 29-year-old man is facing several charges including three counts of robbery and two counts of possession of a weapon. He’s in custody.
