Henry Winkler shouts out Winnipeg’s ‘freezing cold’ and ‘very good restaurants’ on late night talk show

The “Happy Days” star dished to Seth Meyers about the challenges of filming a movie during a blizzard in Manitoba.

Hollywood icon Henry Winkler was promised that filming a movie during Winnipeg’s notorious winter would be cold, and it did not disappoint.

“Freezing cold,” he said in an interview on “Late Night with Seth Meyers.”

Winkler was in town in November 2024 to shoot “Normal” alongside “Better Call Saul” star Bob Odenkirk.

In the April 22 interview, he recalled meeting Odenkirk during a previous appearance on Seth Meyers’ nightly NBC talk show. They became fast friends, leading Odenkirk to offer the Emmy-winning actor a part in the action flick.

“He called me up and invited me to be in this movie “Normal.” He invited me to Winnipeg,” he said.

During production, Winkler got the full Manitoba treatment, weathering a particularly frigid blizzard.

The deluge was perfect for the shoot of the Minnesota-set movie, but not so perfect for the Fonz.

“It was so cold that a lot of me said, ‘We’re going home.’ Not my feet, because they were in boots,” he said.

“It was hard to concentrate.”

Winnipeg’s frigid climate wasn’t the only thing that left an impression. Winkler praised the Manitoba capital’s ‘lovely’ people and ‘very good restaurants.’

Odenkirk has also sung Winnipeg’s praises in an interview on Seth Meyers’ podcast, shouting out Wolseley and the Exchange District, but said the city could use a few more restaurants.

“Normal” opened in theatres April 17 and is slated to hit digital streaming on May 19.
