Two people in their 80s were assaulted by an unknown person on Saturday. At 6:32 p.m., officers were dispatched to the 300 block of Elgin Avenue after reports of a man running into traffic. An 80-year-old woman and an 85-year-old man were walking nearby, and according to a media release, the suspect “ran at the woman and pushed her to the ground.” The man tried to intervene, but he was allegedly punched in the face and fell to the ground. According to the media release, the woman “stood up and was also punched in the face, causing her to fall back to the ground.” The alleged assault by the unknown person continued, and both the man and woman were repeatedly punched and stomped. They were transported to hospital. One is in stable condition, and the other is in unstable condition with “non-life-threatening but serious injuries.” Five minutes later, officers arrived and saw the suspect allegedly running into a residence in the 300 block of Elgin Avenue. Police entered and found the suspect, who behaved uncooperatively. Officers used a Taser multiple times and took the man into custody. The 28-year-old man is now facing charges of assault, resisting a peace officer, and a warrant of apprehension and suspension of parole/statutory release. He was detained in custody. None of the charges have been tested in court.
