He has represented the riding since 2004. History The riding was known as Selkirk-Interlake from 1979-1988. It was divided into four ridings in 1988 (Selkirk, Portage-Interlake, Provencher and Churchill). The riding was brought back in 1997, and has been contested in every election since. For the first five years of its inception, it was held by the NDP, but since 1984, the area has elected right of centre parties, including the Progressive Conservatives, Reform, Alliance and Conservative Party of Canada. Boundaries Major communities in the riding include Selkirk, Gimli, Stonewall, St. Andrews, and Lac du Bonnet Demographics The 2021 census shows a population of 98,620 people in the area, a 6.8 per cent increase compared to 2016.
