If you think it’s been hot and humid already this week, brace yourself for Wednesday. Today will be the hottest and most humid day of the week, with scorching highs in the mid-30s and humidex values in the mid-40s in Winnipeg and surrounding regions. The rest of the south, including Brandon, won’t be far behind, with afternoons highs near 33 C and humidex values in the 40s. Hot temperatures near 30 C will also reach communities as far north as Thompson and Flin Flon on Wednesday. Even further north, Lynn Lake and Churchill will also see temperatures reach the mid-20s. In the midst of the extreme heat, a cold front, relatively speaking, will reach the Saskatchewan border by Wednesday afternoon, according to Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC). As the cold front slices into the hot and humid airmass in Manitoba, parts of the province will be at risk of severe thunderstorms this afternoon and tonight. ECCC said northern Manitoba said supercell thunderstorms and a tornado with large hail are likely. Thunderstorms are possible across the south, with severe storms most likely near the cap of the cold front over western Manitoba, according to the weather agency. The cold front will sweep out much of the humidity over the province over the next couple of days, but heat and humidity will return by the August long weekend, according to the weather agency.
