So far, April has brought some big temperatures swings as the transition to spring continues, and this week will be no exception. Warm air is flooding southern Manitoba along strong and gusty south winds on Monday. Afternoon temperatures will soar into the mid to upper teens across the region, with the warmest highs closest to the U.S. border. Winnipeg and Brandon are in middle of the pack, with daytime highs forecast to reach the mid-teens. Sunshine will accompany the warm and windy conditions. The fly in the ointment is a low pressure trough moving through the province that could bring showers east of Winnipeg and in northwestern Ontario early Monday afternoon, but the chance is low. Those areas will see sunshine or a mix of sun and cloud, too. The trough is associated with an intense low pressure system moving across northern Manitoba on Monday. The northernmost regions will see snow, with five to 10 centimetres possible, according to Environment and Climate Change Canada. Precipitation will be mixed for areas further south where temperatures will rise above freezing. Showers are likely in Thompson, while a rain/snow mix is expected in Gillam. Back in the south, temperatures will continue to climb through the mid-week, with sunny daytime highs in the upper teens on Tuesday and low 20s on Wednesday. Thursday will gently ease us into the next downward temperature swing. Highs will reach the mid-teens, but it will likely be a soggy day in showers. Brace yourself, as chilly single digit highs are returning Friday and through the weekend. Flurries aren’t entirely out the question either.
