It could be a sign the owner of the Winnipeg Jets will still forge ahead with a $400 million downtown development. Last week, Mark Chipman said his company True North was reconsidering the plan that includes a surface parking lot and the former Carlton Inn site which is owned by CentreVenture. CentreVenture says a development agreement deadline with True North was not met, so both sides have agreed to a six-week extension. In a statement, the city's development wing blames the delay on recent events at city hall. Mayor Brian Bowman was critical of CentreVenture for signing what he called a secret option on the land with True North without getting council approval. That angered Chipman, who lambasted the mayor publicly and threatened to pull the plug on the entire development known as True North Square. Chipman revealed that he showed Bowman a video of the entire proposal.
