Starting Monday Sept. 29, 50 fence pillars will be rebuilt around the historic Willistead Manor and Park. Officials say the pillars have been “aggravated by old age and the freeze-thaw cycle”. Each pillar will be disassembled and rebuilt using original materials, according to a city news release. Sterling Ridge General Contracting will be doing the work, weather permitting until spring 2026. The city does anticipate the work will wind down during the coldest winter months. They are warning, access to the park could be restricted at times, especially when the main gates at Chilver Road and Richmond Street are rebuilt. The wrought iron fence surrounding Willistead Park includes limestone piers and was built in 1914 by the Walker family at a cost of $60,000.
