The Windsor Police Service is reminding to only use 911 for emergencies, not for the ongoing wildfire smoke and air quality issues. “We do encourage people to call 911 and our non-emergency numbers when they feel they need to. But in this specific situation, the smoke, the smoke, the air quality, unfortunately it’s not something that Windsor police can assist with,” said Const. Bianca Jackson. “We encourage you to go online and seek other resources to help aid you in what to do.” Jackson said 911 calls have spiked regarding the air quality. But they remind 911 is for emergencies only. “It just takes us longer to get to these emergencies if the lines aren’t open,” she said. “So again, we encourage people to keep in the back of their minds our non-emergency number, which is 258-6111. Keep that saved in your phone, it’s an easy number to remember as well. If you are in need of 911, we don’t discourage people to use it, but use it in an appropriate way.”
