A great movie deal this weekend is helping fight hunger in our community. Mark your calendars, this Saturday starting at 11 a.m., you can help fill local food bank shelves and enjoy a night at the movies. It’s all part of the 21st annual “Cans for a Cause” Meals for Movies event. Bring a non-perishable food item or a cash donation in support of the society of St. Vincent de Paul, and you’ll receive ‘tickets and treats for two’ from Landmark Cinemas in Windsor at 4611 Walker Road. The drop-off takes place at the Landmark Cinemas location, also. Kristen Hazael is the senior promotions coordinator at Bell Media. “The need this year really is I know we say it every year, but the need is so much greater this year,” said Hazael. “They’ve seen an increase of over 245 per cent at their food bank’s usage so far this year, and that number does tend to increase closer to Christmas time. So, there are expecting those numbers to go up even higher.” Each donor will receive one voucher per person, or two per vehicle, while quantities last.
