In Windsor - Remembrance Day poppies made by residents of Lifetime’s on Riverside retirement residence (3387 Riverside Dr. E.) and the local community were on display Tuesday. This is the fifth annual Poppy Project at Lifetime’s. Residents were joined by students and community members to create the symbolic flowers of remembrance, sacrifice, and gratitude. The front lawn of the property was covered with hundreds of paper poppies — each carrying a personal message of thanks to Canada’s heroes – our fallen, military veterans, and those still serving. Holly Kirk McLean is the community relations manager at Lifetime’s on Riverside Drive. “We get a lot of horns honking,” said Kirk McLean. “We get people that stop by and like to read the messages. People like to come by and get their pictures taken with it. So, it really is impactful to see a thousand poppies out on the front like this. And it really does make people pause and think.” The handmade poppies will be delivered Wednesday to local veterans and active service members — a gesture that organizers say keeps the message of remembrance growing stronger each year.
