There wasn’t any snow on the ground Wednesday morning, but the water was plenty cold to kick-off the upcoming Polar Plunge event at St. Clair College. Students enthusiastically participated in their own event on campus with their annual frigid slip n’ slide launch party, thanks to help from the Pre-Service Firefighter program, which hosed them down from all angles. It’s all in good fun to help raise funds for the Special Olympics. The college students teamed up with Windsor Police Service and the fire department to raise $13,500 for the cause. Devon L. is a St. Clair College student and slip n’ slider who enjoyed the cold-water slide challenge. He was happy to support the effort. “They told us what the Polar Plunge was here to support, and I completely agree with it,” said Devon. “I think everyone needs a chance to do; everyone needs to get their spotlight. And I think this is just a great, fun way to show our support.” The 12th annual Windsor-Essex Polar Plunge in support of the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics is set to take place at the downtown Windsor International Aquatic and Training Centre on Feb. 27, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Click here to find a link to sign up for the polar plunge.
