Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) in Essex County, Ont., say $35,000 worth of salsa and dips has been stolen during the theft of two tractor-trailers. A transport truck, including a 53-foot enclosed trailer, was stolen from an address in the 1900 block of Ellis Sideroad in Tecumseh, Ont., at 8:26 p.m. on Sept. 27, according to Essex County OPP. The trailer was loaded with cases of salsa and dip, with a total value of approximately $35,000. Police say the transport truck was later returned to the location, damaged and without the trailer. At 9:38 p.m., the theft of a second transport truck without a trailer occurred from an address in the 2800 block of North Talbot Road in Tecumseh, police say. The transport truck that was stolen from the North Talbot Road address was later seen on County Road 34 in Essex, towing what investigators believe was the enclosed trailer stolen from the Ellis Sideroad address. Two days later, on Sept. 29, the transport truck from the North Talbot Road theft was recovered in Ajax, Ont. The stolen trailer and the cargo remain outstanding. Investigators believe a Jeep Rubicon was seen in the area and that it may be involved in the thefts.
