No charges after police called to fight between Express and Rainmen

Windsor police say officers were called to the WFCU Centre Thursday morning regarding a fight in the main bowl.

The call came in around 10:40 a.m., indicating that between 15 to 20 men were involved in an altercation.

Police arrived within minutes and cancelled additional units from attending as the disturbance had already ended.

Members from the Halifax Rainmen basketball team had already left the premises and were on their team bus.

Officers say there were no reports of any injuries and no one wished to complain to police.

Game 7 of the National Basketball League Canada's championship series was cancelled later that day because of the altercation.

Rainmen Owner Andre Levingston expressed his concerns in a news release Thursday stating, "Today is truly a black eye for our league, when the games is not safe for players to compete there is a problem.”

The league's board of governors named the Windsor Express champions, saying the Rainmen had forfeited by not appearing for the game.

“Our guys were ready,” says Express coach Bill Jones. “We’ve been proven in Game 7’s in how play and how we prepare and to not have that come. That’s unfortunate.”
