An important fund-raising walk under the stars this Thursday evening aims to raise over $60,000 dollars for Windsor’s Hiatus House. It’s the Royal le Page’s 3-km Night Light Walk presented by TD taking place at Realtor Park in east Windsor. Charitable pledges and donations associated with the event will support urgently needed resources and hope to women and children experiencing intimate partner violence. Funds raised tonight will support the second stage transitional housing project to be built adjacent to Hiatus House. Maggie Durocher of Hiatus House is hoping that the event will eclipse the $58 800 raised in last year’s event. “They can live in a, a comfortable one, two or three bedroom apartment with lots of wraparound services to help them out,” said Durocher. “And they can live there for up to two years. So, it speaks to that whole aspect of homelessness caused by domestic violence. It is it’s a huge stop gap because 40 per cent of women who leave, violence situations like that begin their new lives in homelessness.” This project will serve to help victims of intimate partner violence get a fresh independent start in a safe home environment.
