A student at Cardinal Carter Catholic Secondary School in Leamington, Ont. has been chosen for one of 100 $100,000 Schulich Leader Scholarship, Canada’s biggest undergraduate scholarship. Naomi Georges is the recipient and will study Honours Integrated Science at McMaster University. She was chosen by Jeff Tellier for her academic and extra-curricular achievements and becomes the first Cardinal Carter student to win the scholarship. “Knowing the effort I have put in over the past four years has resulted in such a generous and prestigious scholarship is indescribable. I hope to pay it forward by pursuing opportunities to give back to the community,” said Georges. “As a Schulich Leader, I look forward to being part of a community of students with similar passions and determination. Ultimately, the scholarship has given me even greater incentive to work diligently as I continue my postsecondary education.” Tellier said Georges has been a great ambassador for the school and an inspiration to other students. “In my career, I have worked with so many incredible young people, but Naomi truly stands out as arguably the strongest academic student I’ve ever seen balance such a demanding schedule of both academics and extracurricular activities,” he said. “I am continually impressed by Naomi’s outstanding scholastic accomplishments, her drive and motivation to learn, and her natural ability to lead through extracurricular activities.” In total, 50 engineering scholarships and 50 science, technology, or math scholarships are being awarded this year.
