Students will have an opportunity to test their engineering and design skills this weekend at Devonshire Mall. The Windsor-Essex chapter of Professional Engineers Ontario is hosting its 14th annual Innovation Station: Engineering Your Life event on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The free event will feature hands-on science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) activities, technology demonstrations and the annual popsicle stick bridge-building competition, where about 90 student-built bridges are expected to be put to the test. The bridge competition will include two testing sessions, allowing participants to watch their designs undergo strength testing and receive feedback from structural engineers. Organizers say the event is intended to show young people that engineering involves creativity, curiosity and problem-solving, in addition to mathematics and technical skills. Visitors can also explore robotics, 3D printing, science fair projects and interactive exhibits from the University of Windsor and St. Clair College. Admission is free. The event will be held near the former Hudson’s Bay entrance at Devonshire Mall.
