Driver charged after going 111km/hr on Front Road: LaSalle police

LaSalle police have charged a driver with stunt driving for going 41 km/hr over the posted speed limit on Front Road.

Police say an officer stopped a vehicle that was travelling 111 km/hr in a posted 70 km/hr zone on Front Road shortly after 4:30 p.m. on Sunday afternoon.

A 50-year-old from Windsor was charged with the offence of Stunt Driving and Drive While Under Suspension.

The male’s driver’s licence remains suspended, his vehicle was impounded for 14 days, and he’ll appear in court at a later date to answer to the charges.

Stunt driving law in Ontario

In Ontario, stunt driving includes:

• driving 40 kilometres per hour or more over the speed limit on roads with a speed limit less than 80 kilometres per hour
• driving 50 kilometres per hour or more over the speed limit
• driving in a way that prevents other vehicles from passing
• intentionally cutting off another vehicle
• intentionally driving too close to another vehicle, pedestrian or fixed object

Drivers caught driving 150 kilometres per hour or more are subject to stunt driving charges. This applies anywhere in the province, including sections of freeways with limits of 110 kilometres per hour, according to the Highway Trafic Act.
