CK Public Health has advised its fall vaccine rollout for respiratory illnesses is expected to open to the public as of Oct. 26. On Tuesday, the health unit updated plans for its vaccination campaign for COVID-19, influenza, and Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV), after first making the inoculations available to high-risk individuals. “Vaccination remains one of the most effective ways to protect yourself and those around you from serious respiratory illness,” said Dr. Shanker Nesathurai, Medical Officer of Health in Chatham-Kent, in a news release. Residents are encouraged to get vaccinated to best protect themselves and those most vulnerable to the sometimes-serious effects of respiratory illness. In its release, the health unit stressed while many experience mild symptoms, respiratory infections can lead to serious illness, hospitalization, and even death for older adults or those with underlying medical conditions. The vaccines will be administered through primary care providers, pharmacies, and public health clinics as well as the MobileCare Bus. More information on vaccine eligibility and clinic schedules can be found at the CK Public Health website.
