A beloved family physician in Windsor has passed away. Dr. Paul Ziter, a well-known family doctor at the Windsor Professional Centre on Howard Avenue passed on Sept. 5, three days after his 74th birthday. Ziter was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and cherished member of the local community. He practiced medicine for 47 years and welcomed generations of families into his office. His family described him in his obituary as a trusted confidant, a compassionate listener, and a steady presence through the lives of many. The obituary stated that Ziter believed that being a doctor meant being part of the community. He gave generously of his time and talents to hospitals, organizations, charities, and community activities. In May 2025, Ziter was honoured by The Multicultural Council of Windsor and Essex County with the Champion Award during the MCC Awards Gala. Eddie Francis, a close friend of the family, says this is a significant loss for the community. “The advocacy, the work, the role that he played with others was remarkable and the success of which was immeasurable. So this loss is a real loss for Windsor-Essex. The work that he’s done in his family practice, the teaching that he did and the work that he did at Schulich, his previous work... he is definitely someone that will be missed, but someone who left a significant, significant impact.” He added that Ziter helped to ensure Windsor-Essex had the best physicians and access to care. “He wanted to take that extraordinary care that he did every single day and make sure that everybody had access to it. So for many, he was the guy with a smile on his face, but he was the doctor, the person, the friend, the leader, the mentor, the compassionate listener that was always there for all of us.” Memorial donations may be made to The Fancsy Family Hospital - Equipment Fund in memory of Dr. Paul Ziter on the Families First website.
