An anonymous donor is doubling down on support for the Windsor-Essex Therapeutic Riding Association (WETRA) with a major matching campaign. Executive Director Becky Mills said the donor will match every dollar raised up to $75,000, until April 1. Mills said the donor and his wife have had family members use WETRA’s services and strongly believe in the program. Funds will go toward replacing a leaking barn roof. The barn stores about 3,000 bales of hay that feeds their 20 horses all winter long. John Casey is the prevention officer and volunteer coordinator at WETRA. Casey is grateful for the ongoing support from the community in all respects, “There are so many different avenues that individuals can help us.” “That could be through volunteering, even sharing a social media post or sharing the word of what we do,” explained Casey. “We have many fundraisers throughout the year to help us sustain, again, be involved with the community. To help those in need. So even just sharing our story with individuals throughout our community is a big, important part.” Close to 130 clients with disabilities receive therapy at WETRA each week. About 80 per cent of those who are enrolled in the program are children who have developmental, emotional, or physical disabilities.
