Amherstburg has cut the ribbon on a new piece of its waterfront years in the making. The new Waterfront Festival Plaza extends King’s Navy Yard Park on the former Duffy’s Tavern site which the town bought back in 2018. Crews cleared and cleaned the land before creating the new gathering space and the waterfront work isn’t done yet. Town of Amherstburg Councillor Linden Crain is elated that the community now has this amenity in place. “About $3 million has been invested in this park and the community for generations is going to enjoy it,” said Crain. “So, I’m so pumped. There’s a space for food trucks. There’s a food truck bay. And future councils - if they decide - could install an amphitheater and a transient marina. And there’s really so much more that could take place here.” Already a destination with tourism appeal, the town of Amherstburg aims to increase visitors to the region to take advantage of features like the new marina and other riverside projects towards 2030.
