The Essex-Windsor Solid Waste Authority (EWSWA) is celebrating 5,000 tonnes of food waste diverted in Windsor. The celebration was held last weekend, marking the significant feat. “Diverting 5,000 tonnes of food waste from our local landfill is a remarkable achievement,” said Cathy Copot-Nepszy, manager of waste diversion. “That’s thousands of households making a real difference every collection day. We’re giving all residents a well-deserved high five for this milestone!” After marking the achievement, EWSWA held an information night, teaching residents about the green bin program, the hazardous and special products program, and the garden gold compost program. If you are looking to use compost for gardening, beginning May 4. Pre-bagged compost is available for $12 for five bags at the Public Drop Off Depot in Windsor or Transfer Station #2 in Kingsville.
