No tsunami expected after earthquake off Vancouver Island

Officials say there is no tsunami expected after an earthquake struck off of northern Vancouver Island late Sunday morning.

The 4.8-magnitude tremor happened at 10:50 a.m. local time, about 183 kilometres west of Port Hardy, according to Earthquakes Canada. It registered at a depth of five kilometres.

“There are no reports of damage, and none would be expected,” a notice reads.

The earthquake was not felt.
