An Oshawa man is facing charges after he allegedly intentionally struck a pedestrian with his vehicle, leaving him with critical injuries. The incident happened at around 10:30 a.m. on Aug. 6. Police say that the suspect was headed northbound on Nonquon Road near Mary Street North in a black Volkswagen when he left his lane and accelerated into an oncoming traffic lane, striking a 36-year-old pedestrian. The suspect then fled the scene without stopping, police say. The victim was located a short time later and rushed to hospital in critical condition. He was subsequently airlifted to a Toronto trauma centre, where he remained in critical condition as of Monday morning. Police say that investigators who responded to the scene later located the unoccupied suspect vehicle parked a short distance away. The suspect was taken into custody at around 12:40 a.m. on Friday following the execution of a search warrant at an Oshawa residence. “At this time, this appears to be an isolated incident as both the accused and victim are known to each other,” police said in a news release. Carter William Boyce, 28, of Oshawa, is facing three charges in connection with the incident, including aggravated assault. Police continue to investigate and are urging anyone with cell phone, dash cam or surveillance footage of the incident co come forward.
