After Canada’s thrilling 6-0 demolition of Qatar on Thursday, there’s plenty more FIFA World Cup action to enjoy this weekend, including the match between New Zealand and Egypt at B.C. Place on Sunday. From the official FIFA Fan Festival Vancouver to neighbourhood watch parties across the region, CTV News Vancouver’s list of World Cup viewing events has you covered. If soccer’s not your thing or you’re just looking for activities to do between matches, here are some other events you may want to check out this weekend. Vancouver International Jazz Festival The annual Vancouver International Jazz Festival began Friday and runs through July 5, with free and ticketed performances daily across the region. The full schedule and ticket information can be found on organizer Coastal Jazz’s website. ScotFestBC Head to Coquitlam’s Town Centre Park Friday or Saturday for the 129th British Columbia Highland Games, better known as ScotFestBC. Organizers promise piping, drumming, highland dancing, whisky school, kids activities, global food vendors, cultural talks and more. Friday night’s events are free, while tickets are required for Saturday. More information can be found online. Surrey Pride Festival The 27th annual Surrey Pride Festival will be held Saturday from noon to 7 p.m. at Central City Plaza. Featuring live music and drag performances, vendors and a kids zone, the free event is described by organizers as “a celebration of inclusivity and belonging, welcoming everyone to come together and show support for the 2SLGBTQIA+ community.” Pinoy Festival Swanguard Stadium in Burnaby will transform into a celebration of the Filipino diaspora this weekend for the fourth annual Pinoy Festival. Featuring a “solidarity parade,” a fashion show, cultural performances, food trucks, vendors and more, the free event runs from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday and from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday. National Indigenous People’s Day events Sunday, June 21, is Father’s Day, the summer solstice and National Indigenous People’s Day, and there are a variety of events and activities scheduled to mark the occasion. In Burnaby, the city will host its annual celebration in Civic Square the day before Indigenous People’s Day, on Saturday. The free event runs from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Also on Saturday, the Bill Reid Gallery of Northwest Coast Art will host its largest ever summer Indigenous artisans market from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Hornby Street space. On Sunday, Britannia Community Centre field in East Vancouver will play host to Vancouver Aboriginal Health Society’s fourth annual Father’s Day Pow Wow, which runs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Vancouver Ice Cream Festival This weekend also marks the start of the Vancouver Ice Cream Festival, a self-guided tour of more than 40 ice cream shops, bakeries and cafes across Metro Vancouver. Participating stores will be offering specialty ice cream creations through Aug. 3, and guests can collect stamps to gain entries to a prize drawing. More information, including a list of participating vendors, can be found on the festival’s website. Railtown Rooftop Party Light Organ Records’ Summerlight Festival returns this Saturday with the Railtown Rooftop Party at 611 Alexander St. The rooftop concert runs from 3 p.m. to 10 p.m. and admission is free. Space is limited, however, so organizers advise arriving early to avoid being denied entry. Great Grandview Garage Sale Bargain hunters may want to head to East Vancouver this Saturday for the annual Great Grandview Garage Sale. Residents in and around the Grandview-Woodland neighbourhood will be holding simultaneous garage sales from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Visit the event’s website for a map of participating sales. For the sports fans As mentioned, New Zealand takes on Egypt this weekend in Group G action. Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m. at B.C. Place. A much more affordable live sports experience is on offer Saturday at Langley Events Centre, where the Vancouver Bandits will take on the Brampton Honey Badgers in the Canadian Elite Basketball League.
