Police are investigating after a 63-year-old woman was struck and killed by a pickup truck in Chilliwack, B.C. The fatal collision happened shortly after 4:15 p.m. Tuesday on Vedder Road, between the Trans-Canada Highway overpass and Luckakuck Way. Mounties say the victim was attempting to cross the road when she was struck by a 2007 GMC Sierra driven by a 63-year-old man. Both the victim and the driver are Chilliwack residents, police said in a news release Wednesday, saying the woman’s next of kin have been notified. “The pedestrian had crossed the roadway halfway and was on the centre median before stepping back into the southbound lanes,” the Chilliwack RCMP said in the release. The driver stopped and remained at the scene, where witnesses provided emergency first aid before firefighters and paramedics arrived. B.C. Emergency Health Services says it received a call about the crash at 4:19 p.m. and dispatched two ambulances as well as an advanced care paramedic director. The woman was pronounced dead at the scene. “No patients were transported to hospital,” said paramedic spokesperson Brian Twaites, in an emailed statement. Investigators have interviewed several witnesses and there is no indication that speed, alcohol or driver inattention contributed to the collision, police said.
