Police are reminding parents in one B.C. city that golf carts are for golf courses, and not school drop-off zones. In a social media post on Wednesday, the West Vancouver Police Department said that a local man had to learn the hard way after getting creative with transportation on city streets. “There is a right way and a wrong way to manage school drop-off. If your plan involves a golf cart…you need a new plan,” the department’s post said. Police told CTV News that there was also a minor in the cart when it was stopped in the 2400 block of Haywood Ave. The driver had his golf cart towed and was issued three violation tickets, totaling $765, for not having insurance or seatbelts. Police say non-street-legal vehicles like golf carts also lack other necessary safety features such as turn signals, brake lights and mirrors. They go on to warn that golf carts are not built to mix with traffic, even on quiet streets and school zones. West Vancouver Police say they have attended two elementary schools so far this week, and are hopeful “they won’t see this again.”
