Video posted on social media shows the moment a concrete floor gave way at a Victoria construction site earlier this month. The surveillance video shows a worker on the top floor of an under-construction building stepping off of a piece of machinery. Moments later, the floor gives way and the worker and the machine vanish into the hole. Incredibly, the worker was able to walk away from the incident with nothing more than a few scratches. The accident occurred on April 11 at the site of Spencer Block, a mixed-use residential project at the corner of Government and Chatham streets. WorkSafe BC’s investigation into the incident is ongoing. It’s the agency’s second investigation involving Spencer Block in the last six months, after a crane mishap sent a man to hospital in September 2024.
