A bout of “very heavy rain” is in the forecast for Vancouver Island Wednesday, and Environment Canada has issued a rainfall warning covering the western part of the region. The weather agency says up to 100 millimetres of rain could fall, and possibly more in the north near Zeballos. “The rain is predicted to ease by Wednesday evening,” the alert reads. “Water will likely pool on roads and in low-lying areas. Local utility outages are possible. Don’t drive through flooded roadways.” The latest weather warning comes after Environment Canada said the first fall storm of the season would bring heavy rain and strong wind to B.C.’s north and central coasts and the west coast of Vancouver Island. On the other side of Vancouver Island, four Wednesday morning sailings between Hornby and Denman islands were cancelled due to high winds in the Strait of Georgia. With files from The Canadian Press
