Cinephiles who enjoy visiting The Park Theatre in Vancouver have until the end of this week to catch a final film there, as the long-standing cinema will close on Sunday. Located on Cambie Street, the theatre is one of five Cineplex locations in Vancouver. Michelle Saba, a spokesperson for Cineplex, confirmed in a statement that the company has made the “difficult decision” to close the theatre, with its final day of operation set for Oct. 26. Saba was unable to divulge why the cinema was closing, or what the future plans are for the building. Whether it will continue to be used as a movie theatre isn’t known, but Saba did confirm the cinema’s 70mm projector will be removed and installed at another Cineplex location. “We’re grateful to the community for their support over the past 12 years,” she said. The Park Theatre first opened in 1941 and was running as an independent theatre owned by Vancouver-based Festival Cinemas when it was bought by Cineplex in 2013. Saba said Cineplex looks forward to welcoming guests to the four remaining Vancouver locations - the Fifth Avenue Cinemas, Scotiabank Theatre, Cineplex Odeon International Village Cinemas and Cineplex Marine Gateway.
