Friday marks 17 years since Wendy Ladner‑Beaudry was brutally killed while jogging in a Vancouver park, and to this day the case remains unsolved. The 53-year-old was attacked in Pacific Spirit Regional Park on April 3, 2009, near 41st Avenue and Street. Her body was found on St. George’s Trail, just nine blocks from her home. More than a decade-and-a-half after her death, the B.C. RCMP says it remains determined to find the assailant. “Seventeen years is a long time, but our commitment to finding the person responsible for Wendy’s death has never wavered,” Supt. Bal Hansra said in a news release Thursday. “We continue to pursue every lead, no matter how small, because Wendy and her family deserve answers. We believe someone out there still holds information that could help move this case forward.” Over the years, police say they have identified and investigated hundreds of persons of interest, but all were ultimately ruled out. “At this stage, the possibility that Wendy’s death was a random act of violence cannot be dismissed,” Mounties wrote. Beaudry-Ladner’s brother, Peter Ladner, is quoted in the news release saying, “those of us close to Wendy lost a trusted sister, a loving mother, a strong wife, a cheerful aunt, a dear friend, a dedicated mentor or a smiling neighbor.” “We have lived with the pain of this tragic event for the past 17 years. We have moved forward but we will never be able to leave behind Wendy’s loving imprint on our lives,” he continued.
