A Vancouver man plans to use his $500,000 lottery prize to buy a condo and a “nice dinner.” Steven Lyon matched all five numbers in the Sept. 11 Daily Grand draw, but missed out on the “Grand Number” that would have netted him the game’s top prize of $1,000 a day for life or a $7 million lump sum. He told the B.C. Lottery Corporation he plans to celebrate over a “nice dinner” and then put his winnings toward the purchase of a condo. Lyon purchased his ticket through BCLC’s PlayNow.com and was checking his ticket at home when he discovered his win, the corporation said. The odds of winning the top prize in the Daily Grand draw are one in more than 13.3 million. The odds of winning the secondary prize of $25,000 a year for life or a $500,000 lump sum, as Lyon did, are one in more than 2.2 million. So far in 2025, B.C. lottery players have redeemed more than $8 million in winnings from Daily Grand drawings, which happen on Mondays and Thursdays every week.
