Two Vancouverites are $1 million richer after winning the hefty prize on a Lotto 6/49 ticket last week. Marlon and Jennifer Camposagrado decided to buy an extra ticket for the Feb. 8 draw because they had a “good feeling,” according to a media release from the B.C. Lottery Corporation. That instinct turned out to be correct, but the couple’s winnings were much bigger than they initially thought. “I was at home and when I scanned the Lotto! App, I thought it said $1,000,” Marlon told the BCLC. “I was just so happy seeing that number I decided to go to London Drugs to cash out. When I got there the lady said, ‘No, wait a minute let me call someone!’ That’s when I found out and I called Jennifer right away.” The winning ticket was purchased and validated at the London Drugs on Victoria Drive and 41st Avenue. On how she felt when she found out about the windfall, Jennifer said, “I was so shocked; I started crying happy tears at first and then needed a moment to take it in.” She said being lottery winners has been a “beautiful experience” for the pair, and they plan to celebrate an upcoming birthday in a “big way.” They also plan to put the winnings toward retirement and a trip to visit family in the Philippines. According to the BCLC, lottery players in the province redeemed more than $144 million from Lotto 6/49 last year. The odds of winning the $1 million guaranteed prize vary depending on how many tickets were purchased. The odds of winning the $5 million Lotto 6/49 jackpot are roughly one in 14 million.
