UBC employee identified on Creep Catcher The latest video from the Surrey Creep Catchers has surfaced – and the alleged predator has identified himself as a UBC employee.

The latest video from a group calling itself Surrey Creep Catchers has surfaced – and the man has identified himself as an employee of the University of British Columbia.

The Surrey Creep Catchers group posts ads online to lure men after underage children, documenting all text messages and photos exchanged with the alleged predators. The group arranges to meet up with the men, who believe they've been communicating with underage girls or boys, then films the confrontation when they meet.

The most recent video was recorded in early August, and put online Saturday. It shows a man cornered in a vigilante sting, apologizing.

“I’m very sorry,” says the man, standing in front of a car.

“What are you sorry for?” asks the Creep Catcher behind the camera.

“That I went online looking for something, I guess I’m just frustrated,” says the alleged predator, clasping his hands together.

The man also identified himself as a UBC employee.

In a statement to CTV News, the university confirms the man in the video does indeed work for them.

“His role is exclusively administrative; in the workplace he has no direct contact with the public, including students,” read the statement.

“We take matters like this very seriously. We’re just learning of this and will determine next steps once we have more information. UBC will cooperate fully with any police investigation. “

The Surrey Creep Catchers have posted several videos online in recent months, including one featuring a man identified as a Coast Mountain Bus Company employee.

The RCMP is not pleased with the group of men recording videos, warning them last week to stop because what they’re doing is dangerous for everyone.

But Surrey Creep Catcher founder Ryan Laforge says his vigilante group is helping protect children.

"I have an opportunity to expose potential predators that can spread awareness to parents and people all around,” said Laforge. “It’s to protect the kids… and if [RCMP] officers don’t like it, they can arrest me.”
