Surrey police are looking for a suspect they say assaulted a staff member and customer at a 7-Eleven Sunday morning, sending one victim to hospital. Police say the report came in just before 11:30 a.m. of an assault in progress at the business on 120 Street and 64 Avenue in the Sunshine Hills neighbourhood. “Officers arrived and found two men had been assaulted, one physically and the other with a weapon, and the suspect had left the scene,” a statement from the Surrey Police Service reads. “Both victims were at the business when the suspect began to physically assault one of them, a staff member at the business. When the other victim, a bystander, tried to intervene, he was assaulted with a weapon, believed to be knife.” Paramedics treated the staff member on scene and the man who was assaulted with a weapon was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, according to police. The suspect was last seen travelling east on 64 Avenue toward 121 Street, and police could not find him, the statement says. The SPS describes the suspect as a South Asian man with a “heavy build,” and black hair, wearing a light-coloured hoodie, beige pants and white shoes. He is approximately 30 years old and 6’1” tall. Police asked anyone with information about the suspect and video or photos of the incident to call the SPS at 604-599-0502 or leave an anonymous tip with Crime Stoppers. The department warned the public not to approach the suspect if they see him and to call 911, adding he may have a knife.
