Police in Surrey have issued a public warning about a “high-risk offender” who will be living in the city. Nathaniel Odorjan “has a history of violence towards people, including offences towards females and underage girls,” the Surrey Police Service said in a news release Thursday. The service shared a photo of the 42-year-old, describing him as a white man with “short, balding brown hair” and brown eyes. He stands 6′1″ tall and weighs approximately 150 pounds, police said. The SPS said Odorjan is currently subject to a court order with “numerous conditions,” including limits on internet use, bans on possessing or consuming alcohol and drugs, bans on possessing weapons, electronic monitoring and prohibitions on communicating or being in the presence of people under age 18. Odorjan is also prohibited from entering any Safeway or Nesters Market store in B.C. and is specifically banned from the 4Twenty Cannabis store at 3441 Kingsway in Vancouver. “Investigators from SPS’s Major Crime Unit will continue to monitor and ask anyone who sees him breaching his release conditions to immediately call 911,” the SPS release reads. Notably, police did not say what crimes Odorjan had been convicted of, and online court records associated with his name and year of birth did not show any convictions, though several charges remained before the courts. Asked for more information on the underlying crimes, SPS deferred questions to the B.C. Prosecution Service, saying only that Odorjan is “awaiting either sentencing or trial on several other offences” and will be residing in transitional housing in Surrey. The BCPS told CTV News Odorjan was sentenced in February for one count of telecommunicating to lure a child under the age of 16. “He was sentenced to 120 days of custody,” the service said. “Because he was credited with 120 days of custody for the 80 days he spent in pre-sentence custody, he served no further custodial time on this file after the sentence was imposed.” Odorjan was released with a two-year probation order and must comply with the Sex Offender Information Registration Act for 10 years. He was also ordered to provide a DNA sample to the court, according to the BCPS. While he is not currently in custody, Odorjan is the subject of several matters that remain before the courts. The BCPS said he pleaded guilty to three counts of robbery in a Vancouver courtroom and is scheduled to appear for sentencing on May 13. Odorjan has also been charged with one count of obstructing a peace officer, one count of breach of probation and one count of failing to comply with an order or obligation. His next court appearance on those files is scheduled for May 20 in North Vancouver, the BCPS said, adding that he was released from custody on April 20 after a bail hearing on all four outstanding court files.
