Searchers have suspended their efforts to find a sailor who went missing from a container ship off southern Vancouver Island last week. The sailor was last seen aboard the container ship MSC Jasmine X as the vessel transited the Strait of Juan de Fuca—between Vancouver Island and Washington state—on Jan. 8. A spokesperson for the U.S. Coast Guard’s northwest district says the crewmember disappeared from the Liberian-flagged cargo ship between 8 p.m. and midnight, as the vessel was making its way to Seattle. A rescue helicopter was dispatched from Port Angeles, Wash., on Friday to look for the missing crew member in the vessel’s wake. The coast guard also issued an urgent marine information broadcast to mariners in the area, asking them to be on the lookout for the sailor. The U.S. Coast Guard spokesperson says the search was suspended on Friday night with no sign of the missing sailor. RELATED STORIES:
