A suspect is in custody following reports of gunfire near a busy SkyTrain station and a policing office in Surrey, B.C., on Monday afternoon. The Surrey Police Service said officers received reports of a man shooting a gun near Gateway Skytrain Station around 3:15 p.m. No one was hurt and the suspect fled, authorities said. Shortly after, officers found a suspect in front of the SPS District 1 Community Police Office, where more shots were allegedly fired. The SPS shut down pedestrian and vehicle traffic around King George Boulevard and 107 Avenue and asked the public to avoid the area. The suspect was arrested with involvement of police dogs and the heavily armed Emergency Response Team. The police station remained closed following the arrest while an explosive team searched a bag the suspect left inside the office, but nothing suspicious was found, according to authorities The road and sidewalk closures remained in place as of 6 p.m. and the SPS said it expects them to last for the rest of the afternoon and evening as officers collect evidence. This marks the fourth shots fired incident in Surrey Monday. Around 2:20 a.m., the Ustaad G76 Indian restaurant in the 2100 block of King George Boulevard was shot up. Police believe the gunfire may be related to extortion. The chain’s Newton location was also peppered with bullets Monday, and the Maple Ridge location was shot at late last month. Within the same hour, shots were fired at a home on 141 Street in Whalley while there were several people inside. No one was injured. Police said no links to extortion have been made in that case.
