Police are investigating a series of assaults that took place Saturday evening near Burnaby’s Metrotown mall. Officers were called to a report of an assault in the 6100 block of Willingdon Avenue, near the Kingsborough Street intersection, around 6 p.m., Burnaby RCMP said in a release Monday. The suspect, a man believed to be in his 20s or 30s, had shoved an employee at a business as they were closing for the night, police said. The suspect then allegedly went on to assault a second person outside the business. While officers were responding to the first call, another report was received regarding the suspect spitting on one person and assaulting another in the area of McKay Avenue and Kingsborough Street, a block away. One victim was treated for minor injuries while the other three victims were left uninjured. The suspect is believed to be the same man in all three incidents, who fled the area before officers arrived and is still yet to be located, said the RCMP. “Police have spoken to several witnesses and are in the process of identifying the suspect. Police have also secured CCTV in the area,” the statement said. The investigation is ongoing.
