Performances to resume after striking VSO musicians reach tentative new deal

VSO performances will resume after its musicians reached an in principle agreement with their employer.

The show will go on at the Orpheum Theatre after striking musicians with the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra reached an agreement in principle with their employer.

Negotiators for Vancouver Musicians Association Local 145 and the Vancouver Symphony Society sat down with a mediator and hammered out the new deal.

The musicians walked off the job on Sept. 25 and began picketing in front of the theatre – forcing the cancellation of a number of shows.

With the new deal in place, the VSO announced shows will resume at the Orpheum Theatre on Friday, Oct. 10 with a performance of Saint-Saëns’ Third Violin Concerto.

Both the union and the VSO shared posts on social media announcing the end of the strike.

Negotiations began in March and the musicians have been without a deal since the last one expired on July 1.

Terms of the agreement in principle were not immediately made public.
