Three museums located on Vancouver’s waterfront are hoping to encourage more visitors and eliminate financial barriers by bringing in monthly admission-by-donation. The Vancouver Maritime Museum, Museum of Vancouver, and H.R. MacMillan Space Centre, all located in Vanier Park, will be operating on a pay-what-you-can basis on the first Sunday of every month, starting February. “We believe curiosity should never be limited by cost” said Michael Unger, director of programming for the H.R. MacMillan Space Centre, in a statement. “’Pay-what-you-can day’ reflects our mission of learning without frontiers, welcoming everyone to explore the universe in a way that feels accessible and inclusive, no matter their background or budget.” Regular admission to each museum costs upwards of $20, and a pass that includes admission to all three is sold online for $67. The suggested donation is between $5 and $20.
