Notorious B.C. gangster charged in ‘targeted’ shooting

Jarrod Bacon is behind bars, a suspect in a brazen shooting in northern B.C.

A notorious British Columbia gangster is back behind bars after a shooting in a remote community in the province’s northeast left one person in hospital.

Jarrod Bacon, 41, was arrested on Jan. 31, two days after the shooting in the 5000 block of 51st Avenue West in Fort Nelson. He has been charged with aggravated assault.

A statement Monday from the B.C. Prosecution Service says Bacon is one of two men charged following the incident, which police described as “targeted.”

The second suspect, 41-year-old John Chasse, was charged with assault “relating to the same circumstances,” the prosecutor’s office said.

Bacon and Chasse have been remanded into police custody pending their next court appearance on Tuesday.

Investigators have not released any identifying details about the shooting victim, including whether or not they were the intended target of the attack on Jan. 29.

The Northern Rockies RCMP said one of the suspects was arrested during a traffic stop on the evening of Jan. 31.

The other was arrested later that evening when police, including officers with the North District RCMP’s emergency response team, executed a search warrant at a residence in the 4600 block of 49th Avenue in Fort Nelson.

Bacon is one of three Fraser Valley brothers who were associated with the rise of the Red Scorpions gang at the height of the Metro Vancouver gang conflict in the 2000s.

Youngest brother Jamie Bacon was arrested for the so-called Surrey Six murders in 2007 and was eventually sentenced to 18 years in prison.

Jonathan Bacon, the eldest of the three, was killed in a brazen shooting outside a Kelowna hotel in 2011.

Fort Nelson is located approximately 125 kilometres south of the B.C.-Northwest Territories boundary. The community has a population of approximately 2,600 residents, according to 2021 census data.
